As the Senior Vice President of Västtrafik, the public transport authority of West Sweden, Roger Vahnberg is responsible for all operations including, trains, trams, buses and ferries as well as traffic and infrastructure development. One of his major roles includes dealing with complex political relationships regionally as well as in the city of Gothenburg. Västtrafik has 280 million journeys per year and a turnover of 8.5 billion SEK.
Roger has many years of experience within the public transport sector and has worked with the financial, operational and political sides of the organisation. He has taken the company successfully through several major changes, with mergers and new ownership structures, and worked with the establishment of the organisation as it is today.
He is also a member of the management board for the West Swedish Agreement of which congestion charges in Gothenburg is a part. He represents Västtrafik in UITP, public transport’s international organisation. He is the chairperson of the Organising Authorities Assembly as well as a Vice President of UITP. He is known both locally and internationally as a public speaker and has a well-established international network of contacts. He gained early experience from the engineering and IT industry in Sweden and in North America. Roger has a Masters and Bachelors of Science in Engineering and a BBA.
