Jan is a researcher at the Transport Research Centre (CDV).

After graduating with a degree in transportation and communications from the University of Economics in Prague in 1978, he worked in various transportation organisation and management positions in the transportation department at Prague Public Transit Company general headquarters. In 1990-1996 he worked at the headquarters of Czech Railways, initially as a control department specialist and later as the head of the passenger transportation department.

He has worked in transportation research since 1997, when he joined CDV and focused primarily on road safety. In 2001 – 2006 he was a national external expert of the European Commission and was later the COST Research Secretary for transportation and construction at the ESF COST Office. At the end of his contract he returned to CDV, where he was the research director from 2008-2009. He is currently focused on investigating sustainable transportation and public transportation quality at the CDV Prague office. At the international level, he is a national delegate in steering committees and working groups for COST and OECD research programmes.
