Thomas J. Potter

Thomas is a Civil Engineer working for Norconsult in Bergen, Norway.  Thomas was the Chief Engineer for Bybanen, the Bergen Light Rail project, from 2001 until March 2012 and has been involved in the planning and design of the project since 1988.  A native of the USA, he was educated at MIT and the University of Pennsylvania.  He was responsible for the technical specifications of the entire system and has been the project manager for the 100% low-floor Variobahn vehicles delivered by Stadler Pankow GmbH in Berlin.  He also recently completed a study of trolleybus operations in Bergen and has recommended a major expansion of the electric bus system and an investigation of alternatives for extensions such as battery operations.  He is also working on a number of rail projects included safety at level crossings in Oslo and consultation with the Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen light rail projects.
